Sokol Omaha and Sokol Underground

Located at 2234 S. 13th Street, is Sokol Omaha. Founded in 1862, Sokol is an organization dedicated to the physical, mental and cultural advancement of its members, and the children who attend its gymnasiums. For over 130 years, Sokol Omaha has been a pillar of the South Omaha community, providing excellent gymnastics training and facilities, while serving as a gathering place for wedding receptions, private parties, meetings, conventions and public events. In recent years, the Sokol Underground which is downstairs at Sokol Omaha, has become well known as a safe, nonsmoking hang out for young adults to listen and dance to live music. The Sokol Underground presents a musical genre of rock, alternative, pop, punk, metal and hard rock. Holland Performing Arts Center – Handel’s Messiah

On Sunday, December 6th at 3:00 p.m. a free holiday concert performance of Handel’s Messiah will be held at the Holland Performing Arts Center. The Voices of Omaha, a 150 member choral group, and the Voices of Omaha Chamber Orchestra will be in concert. Performing Messiah has been an annual tradition for 41 years. If you’ve never been inside the Peter Kiewitt Concert Hall and experienced the acoustics, you should not miss the free event opportunity to experience it. You can hear a pin drop inside the hall. The Holland Performing Arts Center is located at 13th and Douglas Streets in downtown Omaha. Ace’s Diner at Harrah’s

Today, I crossed the Missouri River to Harrah’s in Council Bluffs, to eat at Ace’s Diner located inside the Hotel/Casino. Harrah’s is just north of I-80 on I-29 at the 9th Avenue exit. My wife accompanied me. We were greeted by one of the staff, Shannon, and by our server, Mary Lou. On weekends, Ace’s Diner serves a “Holy Cow” Burger, that contains 4 half-pound patties of prime Angus beef, 8 slices of bacon and 10 slices of cheese. Mary Lou said she had only witnessed a few guests able to consume an entire one. I opted for a more austere choice; a single bacon cheeseburger with cheddar cheese. It was still a feast of a burger. The bun was lightly toasted and very fresh. The two strips of bacon were crisp and added to the overall taste. After lunch, my wife and I walked the Hotel grounds and saw Stir Cove where Harrah’s holds their Summer Concert Series. Check it out and Happy Motoring!

Qwest Center – Bon Jovi Concert

New Jersey rock band, Bon Jovi, will be coming to the Qwest Center for a March 9, 2010 concert. Band members include: Jon Bon Jovi – Lead vocalist, guitar and piano; Richie Sambora – Lead guitar and background vocals; David Bryan – Keyboard and background vocals; Alec John Such – Bass and background vocals; Tico Torres – Drums and background vocals. Bon Jovi hits include, “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin‘ On a Prayer”. Tickets go on sale November 16 at 10:00 a.m. Happy Motoring!

Omaha Civic Auditorium – Daughtry Concert

Whether you are an American Idol fan, or just a rock fan, you should make plans to attend the Daughtry concert at the Omaha Civic Auditorium on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the concert are available through a number of online services, including Ticket Luck, Go Tickets, and Stub Hub. The Civic Auditorium is located at 1804 Capitol Avenue, downtown. Radiator maintenance should be an integral part of the preventative work you have performed on your car.
